Its been great to check out the book of Colossians together at SLICE!! This week we are going to look at what it means to be FREE in Christ.Question mark

There are 3 more weeks of Colossians, then we are going to be having… SLICE BY REQUEST.  For the last three weeks of this term Jamie, Amy and Felicity will talk to us about a topic from the bible that YOU choose.  So you might be thinking… “I’ve always wanted to know what the bible says about….”  Well whatever it is, this is your chance to find out!  We’d love you to suggest some topics for these weeks… post a comment and let us know :)

Hey guys, once a term the youth groups from all around the area get together for YOUTHSURGE. The next one is on 24th August… that’s only 2 weeks away!

This is an awesome night for two reasons:

1. All the things that are good about SLICE: the Bible, prayer, music and Christian fellowship;
2. Young people from all around the shire are there and we realise we’re not alone at Sylvania on Sunday mornings at SLICE - we’re part of the HUGE body of Christ.

It’s also a cool Friday night out and we’ll drive to St Pauls Menai together from our church.  Leave 7pm, return 10pm.

To welcome the sunshine and the new term, we’re having a BBQ lunch next Sunday the 29th after SLICE. So we’ll kick off at the usual time, 10AM, beginning our new series on Colossians. Colossians is a letter Paul wrote to the church at Colossae and is full of good stuff!

When (regular) SLICE finishes at 11.30 the fun will continue and we’ll share some lunch until about one. Parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents and especially friends are more than welcome.

Oh, and if you can, please bring $3 for lunch. See you there!

Hey guys, we’ve been talking about creating a short film for the Christian Short Film Festival: Ignite for a few weeks now. Time’s running out, let’s make a movie!

Basically we need to choose:
a) a passage of the bible that has the idea of light in it and fits one of the 7 themes: Grace, Humility, Justice, Miracles, Sacrifice, Unity, Wisdom.
b) a great way to make a film based on it. It can be any kind of movie as long as it’s under 5 minutes.

We need YOU GUYS to tell us what you want to do. This is something we’re going to do as SLICE. So post any ideas, any thoughts, anything you think would be good for our film. Don’t worry about the words you use, just hit post!

This Saturday the 23rd, SLICE is heading across the road to the church to make havoc. There’ll be food, drink, awesome time with your pals and a whole lot o fun. We’ll even go for a maccas run in the morning before SLICE starts at 10am, to get some nutritious vittles.

7pm Saturday night. Bring your sleeping gear, warm clothes, 5$ and money for breakfast anything you can make fun with, a pen and a bible (if you have one) and your imagination. And don’t forget your permission slip. Cause Kansas is going bye-bye.

Eden?
So, it’s 4000 BC, and God is hovering over a void, and he says, ‘let’s do something’. So he creates a planet called Earth, a bunch of bright stars and a strange little creature he calls man.

He tells Adam and Eve, he says, ‘Look at everything I’ve made you. You’re absolutely free to do anything you like. But don’t touch that tree’, and he points to this tree in one corner. It’s not glowing, and it definitely isn’t fenced off. But God said not to eat its fruit.

So Adam and Eve are there living happily, and gardening. One day Eve is off strolling along the river bank and this snake comes along. He opens his mouth and says…

Ok, let’s see. So far I think we have these ideas for the next night out:

Bowling
Laser tag
Iceskating
Egypt
Going to the Ashes
(but this can’t be serious; who’d want to go see a cricket game?)

I think we need more input, all you slicers out there. I know you can hear me.

…it might not be what you really need. But who are we to tell you what we need? Instead, this week we’ll look at the book of Mark in the Bible and see what Jesus thought one man needed most of all.

There was once a paralysed man whose friends couldn’t get him into a crowded to see Jesus, the great healer. So they climbed onto the roof, carefully cut a hole, and lowered him down to the ground, right at Jesus’ feet. Jesus looks up at the hole, then down at the paralysed man, and says a very, very strange thing.

Come to SLICE this Sunday at 10 O’clock and find out what happened next. Don’t forget to bring your friends!

At SLICE on Sunday we had a great discussion about meeting together so we can encourage each other. The boys and I talked about helping each other stay on the ‘crooked and narrow’ path when the wide, straight, yellow-brick road of the world can look so easy and safe and fun.

Let’s open it up and throw around some ideas. Let us know what you think!

Why should people come together to do church? Do we have to, or can we just choose to? Does God love us more when we come together, or doesn’t it really matter?

Find out answers to these and other questions this week at Slice when Fiona speaks to us from the Bible from the book of Hebrews.
